Director of Finance
We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to work from our Bedford office to build and lead our finance teams in Canada and Namibia as we expand mining activities in Namibia. This position reports to the CFO. As NMI is a publicly-traded company, this role includes responsibility for compliance with external financial reporting requirements, liaising with the company’s auditors in Canada and Namibia on the annual audit, and coordinating tax compliance in Canada and Namibia. Responsibilities also include selecting and implementing the appropriate financial reporting system and internal controls, and hiring, training and developing the accounting team. Some travel to Namibia may be required.
Core Responsibilities:
- Work with the CFO to meet continuous disclosure obligations for financial statement filings
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for all entities
- Ensure financial practices comply with regulatory standards (IFRS)
- Select and implement a robust financial reporting system (ERP platform) and related internal controls
- Serve as the functional owner of the ERP platform, accountable for system administration, configuration, data integrity, and ongoing optimization to support accounting operations.
- Monitor ERP system health and workflow efficiency, identifying and resolving issues that affect data accuracy or operational continuity.
- Lead or support ERP-related projects including system upgrades, module implementations, and integration testing.
- Develop and maintain ERP user documentation and procedures to support consistent and compliant use across the accounting team.
- Evaluate opportunities to leverage ERP functionality to reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and support organizational scale.
- Design and implement appropriate internal control systems as the company grows
- Oversee fixed asset management including tracking, valuation, depreciation, and disposal in accordance with accounting standards and organizational policy.
- Support procurement and purchasing processes, ensuring expenditures are approved within delegated authority limits and purchasing records are maintained accurately.
- Assist in building the accounting team in Namibia to support growing mining operations.
- Lead, develop, and manage accounting teams in Canada and Namibia through clear direction, regular performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Assign and schedule work across the accounting function to ensure team capacity is aligned with operational priorities and close cycle demands.
- Assist in preparing administrative and mine development budgets.
- Coordinate monthly reporting of actual vs. budget to key stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors.
Qualifications
✅ CPA designation.
✅ 5+ years in progressive finance leadership.
✅ Experience with consolidations and multi-currency accounting.
✅ Experience in the mining sector is ideal.
✅ Experience in compliance, tax, and regulatory frameworks.
✅ Demonstrated experience managing entity-level finance functions.
✅ Demonstrated experience in financial reporting systems selection, implementation, and maintenance.
✅ Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
✅ Experience building, developing and managing finance teams.
